How it began is amazing! The jungles of Anlong Veng were very dangerous, with landmines, roadside bandits, malaria, and the much-feared Khmer Rouge were waging their guerrilla warfare. Because of this, there was virtually no contact between Anlong Veng and the outside world. When Setan Lee felt God calling him to go to Anlong Veng to meet with the leader of the Khmer Rouge, he had to face his fears, the trauma and loss that he and so many had experienced from these people. He chose to surrender all this to God and go share the love, forgiveness, and hope of Christ. Setan was escorted there by two soldiers wielding AK-47s. He told his staff that if he wasn’t back in two weeks, they should consider him dead and tell his wife what happened. He arrived the day that Pol Pot, the Khmer Rouge master mind, died. General Tith was now in charge and felt overwhelmed by the responsibility he now faced. Setan introduced him to The God of the Universe who had saved him and turned his life around so many years ago when he was about to be executed in that brutal commune. General Tith accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, along with his family! He was amazed by Setan’s courage and love and asked him to go with him to meet some “very important people.”
As they pushed through the jungle, the General began calling names, and hundreds of orphaned children appeared. He said to Setan, “You said Jesus came to love and save the poorest and neediest…Do you think He would care for these?” Setan promised to do whatever God would allow him to do to help these children. It took time, but the Orphanage Center opened in October of 2004.
Later, David, a dear nephew of Setan died in a tragic drowning accident. The center was named in his loving memory.
The center currently cares for about 65 children and babies, but TransformAsia hopes in the future to have facilities for about 120 children as God provides additional dormitories, and other much needed facilities. The center operates in cooperation with the department of social services of Cambodia.
Please pray as our staff works diligently to teach these children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, supporting their mental, emotional, character, social, and spiritual growth. The children attend school in the village. The staff and volunteers support the other needs of the children. Most importantly, the staff help the children to grow in the Love of God and are leading them to a personal relationship with Jesus.
